Make A Difference Week Events Planned for Oct. 18-22

缅北禁地’s annual Make a Difference week will be held Oct. 18-22. Featuring several events on campus and a keynote address from Lucy Ogbu-Nwobodo — CSUEB alumna and neurosurgery student at UC Davis — the week is an extension of national Make A Difference Day, the largest single day of volunteering in the country.
Here’s a look at what to expect:
Tuesday, Oct. 18
Get Connected to Service Fair
12:30-3:30 p.m. Attendees can connect with local community organizations in need of volunteers for programs across the East Bay. This runs concurrently to the keynote address. (New University Union multipurpose room)
2-3 p.m. In her keynote address, Lucy Ogbu-Nwobodo (B.S. ’07, Biological Sciences and M.S. ’11, Physiology) will discuss her path to medical school, her work at the free Imani Clinic and the importance of being a change agents within our communities.
Wednesday, Oct. 19:
Food Pantry Launch
10:45 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the new Pioneers for HOPE (Helping our Pioneers Excel) Food Pantry that will assist students dealing with homelessness and food insecurity.
3-3:45 p.m. A workshop hosted by the CSUEB Center for Community Engagement entitled “Leveraging Service for Employment,” will explore ways students can promote their participation in service projects to future employers.
Thursday, Oct. 20
Outdoor Movie Night
8 p.m. Watch a movie under the stars while making a difference in the global community. Snack packs will be given in exchange for donations of new or gently used winter hats, socks and gloves for , a Bay Area-based organization working to assist Syrian refugees stranded in Greece. (Meiklejohn Hall lawn)
Friday, Oct. 21
High-Impact Practices Workshop
9 a.m-1 p.m. This workshop for faculty will explore how and why community-based learning is considered a “high-impact practice” that deepens student learning and class engagement. (University Union, Bayview room)
Saturday, Oct. 22
Make A Difference Day
7 a.m.-2 p.m. Hosted by Student Life & Leadership Programs, interested volunteers may to participate in local service projects in honor of national Make A Difference Day. (Recreation and Wellness Center plaza)
