Department of Physics

Welcome to Physics

Welcome to the Physics Department!  We are a learning community of students, staff, and faculty dedicated to advancing knowledge in Physics and the world around us, inside us, and beyond us. Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience, real-world applications,  and opportunities to work closely with faculty on research projects.

Welcome Message From the Chair

On behalf of the Department of Physics here at CSU East Bay, I am writing this welcome message for any prospective Physics major, current majors, students taking classes in Physics, or anyone with an interest in Physics.  Here at CSU East Bay, we have dedicated faculty and staff who do a remarkable job teaching physics, the most fundamental of sciences. Every faculty member is actively involved in research and all students are encouraged to participate in lab research.
Our department has an active and vibrant student community who study together and socialize, often in North Science 236. Everyone is welcome to our weekly Spitzer Seminar, Fridays at noon, usually in North Science 220. The Department of Physics also offers an annual Outstanding Physics Student of the Year award that includes a cash award and funds to support student research. We welcome you to our department and look forward to seeing you succeed in your future Physics endeavors!
