Smoking

Effective Sept. 1, 2017, in order to promote the health of faculty, staff and students, and to foster a campus atmosphere that is safe and supportive of students’ learning endeavors, the university is banning the use of all tobacco and nicotine-based products, including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, electronic devices and more. Alcohol

Possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited before, during and after commencement. Drinking and misconduct by even a few would be disturbing to the graduates, faculty, and guests who expect and deserve a safe, orderly, and dignified ceremony. Any graduate who appears to be intoxicated will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony.  Guests who appear to be intoxicated will not be allowed entrance into the stadium or live-stream viewing sites.  Further, any guests appearing to be intoxicated or causing disruption will be removed from the campus.

Cell Phones

Please silence personal electronic devices during the ceremony.

Dogs

Only service animals are permitted at commencement or on the university grounds on ceremony days. Service animals need to be clearly identified. No other animals are permitted.

Local Weather 

Please check the local weather forecast to be best prepared. The weather can be very warm, and there is no shade available at the commencement site.  Please feel free to wear hats, visors and sunglasses, and apply sunblock.  It is extremely important to bring provisions for children, persons with special needs, and the elderly, as there will be limited food and beverage sales.

In Case of Inclement Weather or Excessive Heat 

The ceremony will go forward even in the event of rain or excessive heat. Please note the ceremony may be abbreviated to ensure the safety of all graduates, guests, faculty and staff.  Speeches may be omitted from the program and names may not be announced.
