Visual Identity Architecture
Our logo is a tribute to the East Bay, composed to roughly follow the shape of our community with diagonal components that represent the shape of the bay. The star is a nod to our University motto, Per Aspera Ad Astra — “Through Adversity to the Stars” — and its placement marks our location on the East Bay, making our logo an abstract map. This bold, modern logo speaks to many of our brand pillars and personality traits, presenting us as a Haven on a Hill — claiming our space on this side of the bay.
Its open-ended, flexible system represents our pioneering spirit and our educational offerings that are as unique as our students, as well as unlocked potential and unlocked opportunities. And this modular system is poised to grow with us, prepared for what’s next.
Standard logos
These are the primary logos to be used for the majority of applications, including marketing-communications materials and advertising, events and general branding.
Standard Logo Components
The standard logos should always be reproduced exactly as shown, with no alteration to the components or the proportions between them. The mark should not be encroached by text or imagery; it should always have a clear space on all four sides that is at least equivalent to the height of the E in EAST BAY lettering.

Standard Logo Coloring
These are the authorized color variations of the standard logo for use in full-color, black and white, and against a black background. No other colors or variations should be used.
Visual Mark Misuse
The logo should always be produced exactly as shown in the "standard logos" section in full-color applications, or within the authorized color variations shown on the preceding sections. Otherwise, coloring, type fonts and proportions of the mark should never be altered, nor should extra words or design elements be added.
University Seal
The university seal is reserved for the Office of the President and official university-wide use, such as with diplomas and academic honors. The university seal should not be used on websites, promotional products, publications or college/department/program events.
